LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES USED BY SIXTH SEMESTER STUDENTS OF ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM

Abstract

This descriptive mini research is conducted to find out what English learning strategies used by the sixth Semester Students of English Education Study Program of PGRI University in Palembang. The samples were 138 students taken from all of the population and selected by using stratified non random sampling. The data were collected by using questionnaire of Strategies Inventory of Language Learning (SILL) and analyzed based on SILL procedure. Based on the results of analysis, it was found as follows: firstly, there were 28 students were indicated in Metacognitive strategy (20.29%). Secondly, 27 Students used Affective strategy (19.57%). Thirdly, 25 students were indicated in Social strategy (18.12%). Fourthly, Compensation strategy was used by 24 students (17.40%). Fifthly, there were 22 students who used Memory strategy (15.95%). And the last, 12 students were indicated in Cognitive strategy (8.70%). Furthermore, the detail of this research will be discussed in this article.
